Behavior Support

Wildwood School’s Behavior Support Department is an integral component of educational programming for our students. Grounded in the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and aligned with New York State Education Department (NYSED) guidance, our team features dedicated Behavior Specialists actively pursuing or holding Master’s degrees and BCBA credentials, alongside level-assigned and floating behavior assistants. They work collaboratively with classroom teams to create safe, predictable, and supportive learning environments where every student can learn. Embracing the principle that behavior is communication, the department partners with classroom staff, families, and referring school districts to complete Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) that focus on proactive strategies and function-based replacement behaviors. We prioritize skill-building, environmental adaptations, and functional communication to address root causes while upholding student dignity. Working side-by-side with educators, our department delivers embedded coaching, real-time classroom support, and continuous staff training to build consistent, high-quality behavioral practices across the school day.
