As Special Education Resource Specialist you will provide training, resources and information to parents of individuals with disabilities about special education and related topics. You will collect, organize and analyze information about parents needs through surveys, interviews and professional sources. You will assist them in accessing appropriate resources regarding special education.
Other duties include:
Markets the Special Education Parent Center in the community by speaking at public forums, conferences, organizations, and community group meetings.
Act as the primary liaison to school districts throughout the Capital Region and represents the Special Education Parent Center at events associated with those school districts.
Assists parents in connecting with community based organizations, special education professionals and school district personnel to provide parents with resources and contacts regarding special education.
Provides one-to-one and/or small group trainings on topics associated with Special Education.
Completes and submits required quarterly documentation according to NYSED guideline directing Special Education Parent Centers.
Provides staff coverage at the Special Education Parent Center to meet with families, answer phone calls and disseminate information according to the inquiries of interested persons.
Reviews and collects books, articles, and other publications for the Parent Center information library.
A Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university and five years experience working with children and/or parents of children with disabilities ; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
