A huge thank you to all of the families, organizations and friends of Wildwood who generously donated gift cards for DSP Week! They were a great gift that showed the appreciation for our hard working staff!

Every year, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving is known as “Giving Tuesday”.  It came about as an answer to the shopping craze of “Black Friday” and to help people focus more on giving to others and less on the superficial part of the holiday season.

This year the Wildwood Foundation got involved by starting a new initiative called “Friends of Wildwood,” to honor our community partners and to give thanks to the people and organizations that enrich the lives of the people we support.

On Giving Tuesday, the Foundation led a team of twenty Wildwood volunteers at the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York.  The Wildwood volunteers packed over 6,000 pounds of food to be boxed and sent to organizations around the Capital District to feed hungry families.  Wildwood staff, families, Board members and people receiving supports, formed a strong and dedicated team that gave an afternoon to make our community stronger.

Many of us were elated when Governor Cuomo announced that, because of the strong advocacy and his recognition of the valuable contribution of Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), that he was funding a pay raise for DSPs in 2018.  Since then, many things have been conjectured about the state of federal funding and the possibility of cuts to the state budget. There is a question of whether the governor and the legislature will be able to deliver on their promise.
